Today we will evaluate what we have learnt about plants during the past 3 weeks, so trust what you know and do your best in the quiz!...

Since we are finishing the first term, we will dedicate these last classes to learning fascinating facts about plants and how they reproduce.

Solve the following activity:

Read the information from the first text, then answer the questions in your notebook

1) Suggest why the plants in the Space Station are grown in enclosed containers

2) Suggest why water has to be pumped directly to the plant roots, rather that just poured into the container from a watering can.

3) Explain why the roots of a plant grow in all directions in space

4) Describe how the problem from point 3) was solved in the space station

5) Describe 3 reasons why it would be useful for astronauts travelling on a long journey to grow plants in their spaceship.

Today we will review the last topic of the first term: flowering plants.

The idea is to review the life cycle of these kind of plants, because not all plant reproduce in the same way, not all plants produce flowers, or have you ever seen a pine tree with beautiful flowers?, of course not! These plants use a different mechanism.

A) Go to the SCIENCE FACTS website and based on the life cycle of a flowering plant, DRAW these stages and summarize them using a simple sentence.

B) All fruits were flowers before being a fruit. Choose 4 fruits you like, use google to find the flower it was and describe it in your notebook. (example: after googling papaya flower, I found that these flowers are white with a yellow center)

C) Go out of the classroom and ask 2 people: (record their answers in your notebook)

What do they think is the function of a flower in a plant?

What is pollination? (in Spanish "polinización") if they know, then ask them, what happens after pollination with the flower? If they don't know, then explain it briefly.
