Have you ever wondered where the

energy that powers your home, school,

and favorite devices comes from?

Our planet provides us with natural

resources, but not all of them last

forever. Some, like sunlight and wind,

can be used over and over again,

while others, like coal and oil, take millions of years to form and can eventually run out.

In this lesson, we’ll explore the difference between renewable and non-renewable resources, why they matter, and how our choices today can impact the future of our planet.

1) Visit the BYJUS website, read the definition of renewable and non-renewable resorces and answer: what is the main difference between renewable and non-renewable resources?

2) In the PennState website there is an article about renewable

and non-renewable resources. It talks about some specific resorces

like plants and animals. Read about the way in which trees are used

and answer these questions:

a) Explain why are trees a renewable resource? (specifically trees)

b) Mention 6 uses we give to tree wood or tree chemicals

c) Explain what do we use leftovers from trees for?

                                                          3) There are many types of natural resorces, some of                                                                     them are used to provide humans with energy we                                                                       use every day. Visit the BBC website and write the                                                                   name of all the energetic resources that we use and                                                                 use the table at the bottom of the website to write                                                                      the energy store of each of these resources.

4) Explore the Nesfircroft website, read about the renewable and non renewable resources and write the examples they mention for each type. (which are the renewable  and which ones the non-renewable resources?)

5) Non renewable resources are used widely for producing energy around the world. Visit the NATGEO website and complete:

a) Why are non renewable resources a major

problem for humanity?

b) Why are "Fossil fuels" called this way?

c) When did the plants and animals that later

became fossil fuels live?

d) Write some uses for each of the 4 non-renewable resources mentioned in the article (Crude oil, natural gas, coal and nuclear energy)

6) Humans use both, renewable and non renewable resources for

many reasons. They both have advantages and disadvantages that

must be considered when it comes to taking care of the planet.

Go back to the Nesfircroft website you used before, scroll down

and write the 3 advantages and disadvantages of renewable

resources and repeat this for the non- renewable ones. (titles only)

Today the group will be divided into teams, and each team will create a presentation about one of the energetic resources that includes:

The 8 natural resources we will investigate about are:

1. Solar Energy

2. Wind Energy / eolic energy

3. Hydropower

4. Geothermal

5. Coal

6. Oil

7. Natural Gas

8. Nuclear Energy
