If you missed this class, please catch up with on of your classmates, it was a lab practice with different stations about the 4 light phenomena we learned during the first week.

Stations:

  • Laser and internal reflection

  • Soap bubbles

  • Coin trick

  • Concave and convex mirrors

  • Sorting examples of light phenomena

  • Videos

  • Arrows and visual effect

Welcome to our exciting science lesson on light reflection

and refraction! Have you ever wondered why mirrors show

your reflection or why a straw looks bent in a glass of water?

In this class, we’ll explore how light behaves when it bounces

off surfaces and bends as it moves through different materials.

Through engaging notebook activities, you’ll deepen your understanding of how light interacts with the world around us!

Let's star by watching this short video:

Then, solve the following activities in your notebook:

1) Check the following table and answer:

a) Complete the sentences, using ‘faster’ or slower:

* Light travels ___________ in water than it does in air.
* Light travels ____________ in air than it does in glass.

* Light travels ___________ in ice than it does in water.

b) Check the different media in the table and write a conclusion about how is the speed of light depending on the state of matter of the medium in which it is traveling.

2) According to what you learnt in the video, complete the sentence to describe refraction correctly:

Refraction of light happens when light ______________ direction because of a
change in its _____________________.

3) This ray diagram shows a ray of light in air. Copy and complete the ray diagram to show what happens when the ray of light enters the glass. You can use this website as a help to understand the difference

Include on your diagram:

• the normal
• the angle of incidence
• the refracted ray
• the angle of refraction.

4) Visit this WEBSITE and write 7 uses of reflection in your notebook, there is no need to explain if you understand it well.

5) Go to this WEBSITE and classify the sentences about light as TRUE or FALSE.

6) Vist the Letstalkscience.ca website and find this image:

Then, in your notebook, explain the analogy

between the shopping cart and the refraction

of light when entering a different medium.

7) Visit BBC website, Draw the human eye and its parts and explain the use of a convex lens in the eye. Finally, solve the quiz at the bottom of the website to check your knowledge
