Class 1: Sounds around us

Imagine a world without sound. No laughter, no music,

no birds chirping in the morning, and no voices of loved

ones. Sound is not just a means of communication, but

a way to connect with the world around us. From the

gentle rustle of leaves to the thunderous roar of a waterfall,

sound has the power to evoke emotions and capture our

imagination.

In this unit, we will explore the fascinating world of sound, from how it is produced to how it travels through different mediums, and how we perceive it with our ears. So, get ready to tune in and discover the wonders of sound!

Discuss these questions with your partners:

Let's solve these activities to learn more:

1) Watch the TEDed video about The science of hearing and write 4 things you learnt from it:

We already know some facts about sounds. Now, imagine a world where you can see music, feel it in your bones, and ride the waves of sound like a surfer catching the perfect wave. That's right, we're about to dive deep into the exciting world of sound waves! Just like how waves in the ocean move up and down, sound waves travel through the air, bouncing off objects and reaching our ears to create the music we love and the sounds we hear every day. So, put on your wetsuits and grab your surfboards, because we're about to ride the waves of sound!

Today's objective is to recognize why sound is a wave and the basic properties of waves.

1) Watch this video about sound and answer:

a) An unpleasant sound is called a:

b) A sound made by an instrument is called a:

c) Many sounds from instruments together are called:

d) When something vibrates it ....

3) Solve these 2 interactive worksheets about sound characteristics:

Worksheet 2

Today our objective is to make sure we have understood all the concepts we have studied so far about sound energy and waves.

For this, you are going to create either

a crossword or a word search game

with clues to find the following concepts:

Wave                                         Wavelength

Crest                                         Pitch

Trough                                      Timbre
